Berlin Calling #SXSW

(Tech Open Air is glad to have been asked by the Berlin Senate to co-organize a Berlin program at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.)

International Media has been going pretty nuts over Berlin lately, hailing our beloved ecosystem as the next Silicon Valley! In 2011 The Economist simply wrote: “Music and Technology: Berlin is the future!” Global Venture Capitalists and enterprises are flocking to the city to harvest a sprawling startup scene. With office space being plenty and cheap, the city remains a magnet for creative minds from all over the world.

Final Countdown for SXSW Festival

Today, Friday November 23rd is the final deadline for startups that want to take part in the Berlin delegation at SXSW 2013.

5 reasons why you should book your tickets with us till tomorrow:

  1. Discounted tickets that you can easily sell off to others if you end up not going.
  2. If you can’t decide till tomorrow you may as well not go at all as there are only few hotel rooms left.
  3. There will be a cool, voluntary TOA Berlin side program for Berlin delegation.
  4. Free participation at trade show stand and mentioning in booth publication and on www.sxsw.com
  5. Possibility to use a dedicated House (awesome location, was a Google House last year!) for meetings, networking events and parties. (Did we forget to mention free booze?)

If you book on your own at a later stage, you will not be able to participate in any of the above!

You can book your special Berlin delegation tickets here:

Berlin Panel at SXSW: You choose who’s on it!

Dear TOA Berliners,

awesome news from Austin!

There will be a dedicated Berlin panel at the next SXSW festival. The panel is organized by TOA Berlin and the Berlin Music Commission with support by Project Future. It will be moderated by TOA founder Nikolas Woischnik.

So who should be representing the Berlin startup community at this world-renowned festival? Let’s do it TOA style and have you, the community decide. By voting on our facebook poll you will choose up to 4 panelists to represent the Berlin startup scene. Apart from great exposure, panelists will also get free Interactive Badges to the Festival.

Voting on Facebook starts today and will run until Friday at 6pmCET. Feel free to suggest your own preference and share the poll with your friends.

Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/questions/340681942695157.

Next to the panel, TOA will also organize a program for Berlin startups that want to come to Austin. Come join the Berlin delegation and get discounted tickets as well as the possibility to showcase your product at the trade show.

On top of that we’ll have an event next week in Berlin to explain you in more detail what’s on offer for Berlin startups wishing to come to Austin. We’ll have a special guest from SXSW present to answer any questions you may have.

The event will take place on Wednesday, November 7th at 5pm at the office of the Berlin Music Commission: Brückenstraße 1, 10179 Berlin.

Please RSVP via email to contact@berlin-music-commission.de.

And guys: Don’t forget to vote. As Obama likes to say: Every vote counts! J

TOA GOES SXSW! YOU IN?

Dear TOA Berliners,

we have some great news to share! There will be a TOA satellite at the South by Southwest Festival 2013 in Austin, Texas. We are very grateful to have been asked to design and organize a Mini-TOA as part of the official Berlin-Brandenburg presence that is spear-headed by the Berlin Music Commission and supported by the Senate Department for Economy, Technology and Research.

We are especially stoked about this venture since the SXSW festival has been a great source of inspiration for our first TOA Berlin festival.

Our goal is to help Berlin startups get the most out of a trip to this renowned festival that has developed into one of the most important and what we hear most fun events for startups worldwide. The number of parties last year was simply staggering and content seemed great, too! For an ultimate 2012 startup info-graphic, click here. If you need moving images to get you excited, here you go:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Dates

The SXSW Festival is comprised of a music, film and interactive part, the latter being most relevant to startups. The Festival will last from 08.-17. of March, 2013 with the Interactive Conference taking place from 08.-12. of March and the Music and Film Festival following just after that.

Book Early

SXSW brings in more than 50.000 people to Austin, which makes accommodation a scarce resource. Book as early as possible to avoid high prices and sleeping in the outskirts. Also, the deadline for the subsidized, discounted tickets is November 9th.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER

The Trade Show

There will be a Trade Show for all music, film and interactive delegations that will run from 10.-13. of March. Berlin/Brandenburg based startups can take part in the official joint presentation of the State of Berlin-Brandenburg

The House

The States of Berlin and Hamburg as well as Initiative Musik will rent a house close to the convention center (where the trade show will be held) for 4 days from 11.-14. of March. The House will be used for workshops, matchmaking events and parties with an open bar on all days! :-) Startups can also rent The House for their own events at special rates. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about that!

Accreditation

The Berlin Music Commission offers a total of 2 subsidized accreditations per startups. All badges include:

  • Access to the trade show
  • Mentioning in the Trade Show booth publication, on www.sxsw.com and www.berlin-music.net
  • Integration into all official PR and advertising materials of the Berlin presentation
  • Access to The House

Discounted prices (more than 20% off original price) are as followed:

  1. MUSIC FESTIVAL BADGE - 415EUR (plus VAT)
Gives you access to the Music Conference, showcases and official SXSW music parties.
  2. INTERACTIVE FESTIVAL BADGE - 505EUR (plus VAT)
Gives you access to the Interactive Conference and all official SXSW Interactive parties.
  3. FILM FESTIVAL BADGE - 310EUR (plus VAT)

  4. GOLD BADGE (Includes Film and Interactive Badge) - 625EUR (plus VAT)

Don’t forget that the deadline for the subsidized, discounted tickets is November 9th, 2012

WHAT’S STILL TO COME

We are still finalizing ideas about how TOA Berlin can best support startups during these days. We’ll have an open Town Hall Meet-up soon, where you can ask questions and share your ideas. In order for Berlin-Brandenburg to best present itself during these days, we need the input of you, the community. We hope you are up for building this together … again! :-)

Please connect with us on Facebook or Twitter to stay tuned!

Hugs!
